The Sybaritic String Band will be performing twice at 2020 Festival du Bois.
First up is a FREE Contradance on Friday, March 6th, from 8-10 pm, with calling in both French and English by Maureen Collier. The Festival tent opens at 6pm and will start off with a free concert at 7 pm by the Celtic Lasses. Then it’s time to dance!
Our next festival performance is a concert set on March 7th, from 11:45 – 12:30 pm on the main stage.
Come hear The Sybs like you’ve never heard them before. We’ll be playing traditional and original compositions and even doing a bit of singing! And of course, lots of high energy tunes to boogey to.
Unless otherwise indicated, all dances are from 7:30-10:15 PM at the St. James Community Hall, corner of 10th and Trutch (see map), Vancouver, BC. Admission $15 or $10 if you bring a plate of goodies to share at the break ($10 students and unwaged). Kids under 12 come free! Introductory lesson for newbies starts at 7:10 pm. No partner necessary. Please come fragrance-free and bring soft soled shoes to help preserve the wooden dance floor. Co-sponsored by The Rogue Folk Club.
Come dance with us on June 2nd. The caller will be one of our all time favourites, Lindsey Dono from Seattle, Washington. Lindsey is an excellent teacher and calls a nice mix of easy and challenging dances. A fun time will be had by all and beginners are especially welcome.
The Sybs will help kick off Festival du Bois 2017 at their Friday evening Contradance with fiddler par excellence, Ruthie Dornfeld, and accordion player extraordinaire, Jeremiah MaClane. Caller Maureen Collier from Vancouver will be teaching the dances. No experience necessary and no partner required. Just bring your dancing shoes and get ready to shake your bootie at Festival du Bois!
